Welcome to the Sonancia experiment.

This experiment consists of listening to two different pieces of audio and ranking them according to which sound is more tense, pleasant or arousing.

To have a clearer interpretation of what these three concepts mean we define them as such:

• Tension can be defined as the general feeling of uncertainty and nervousness about an outcome or a state of emotional strain. For example there is low tension during calmness or relaxation and high tension during anxiety, fear or stress.
• Pleasant is defined as the positive perception of an emotion. For instance, it may vary between feelings of sadness (low pleasantness) to happiness or enjoyment (high pleasantness).
• Arousal is defined as the intensity of the emotions the person experiences. For example emotional states such as boredom, inactivity and sadness have low arousal; active, energetic affective states such as frustration and excitement have high arousal.

It is possible to leave the experiment at any time, by simply closing your browser, although we would appreciate if you could listen to a minimum of 6 pairs of audio samples. This experiment will require headphones and we also recommend that you adjust your volume configuration in order to get the ideal experience.
